National Society of High School Scholars Nobel Week Goes Virtual
ATLANTA, Dec. 18, 2020 The National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS) will orchestrate their educational summit virtually this year in response to COVID-19 related restrictions. Nobel Week 2020 will began Monday, December 7 with a free webinar for students to kick off the week of activities. In most years, to honor NSHSS co-founder Claes Nobel, NSHSS invites 25-30 impressive members of the organization from around the world to partake in the scholastic seminars.
The selective week-long program that would normally be held at the University of Stockholm will continue virtually and include many of the same elements of the traditional program, with the exception of the cultural immersion one would expect while visiting the city of Stockholm. In a kickoff webinar open to all, Elisabet Idermark, a local university professor, will relay the history of the Nobel Prizes, followed by a panel of past Nobel Week participants, ending with a Q&A session on Nobel Week 2021.

Nobel Week is a special event for students lucky enough to have been selected to travel to the birthplace of the Nobel Prizes, which are awarded on December 10 while NSHSS students are present in Stockholm for Nobel Week. Dating back to 1901, laureates have been awarded one of the five Nobel Prizes "to those who, during the preceding year, have conferred the greatest benefit to humankind," according to Alfred Nobel's will. Since then, a sixth prize in economics has been added. Claes Nobel, the Chairman and Co-Founder of NSHSS is senior member of the Nobel Prize family.
